Sugardew Island – Update & Patch Notes

Hey everyone!

We've released a new update for Sugardew Island! 🚀 The demo is now live, and we've already received some early feedback—especially regarding energy management. So we've made some adjustments:

⚡ Energy Changes
✅ Selling items in the shop no longer requires energy
✅ The low energy warning now appears slightly earlier

📌 Gameplay & Balance

    Chilis now drop correctly
    Energy bars can now be crafted (2 wheat + 1 carrot)
    Energy bars are now cheaper (250 → 125)
    Players start with more energy bars (3 → 6)
    Watering animation has been shortened
    Tool charging time reduced from 1 second to 0.66 seconds per level


🔧 Improvements & Bug Fixes

    The negotiation result in the shop can now be correctly dismissed (button)
    The counter in the statistics screen now stops correctly
    Item sorting at Tomte is no longer inverted
    Buying multiple animals no longer causes duplicates
    Harmony Tree UI improved (automatic quest selection & better visualization)
    Virtual keyboard now opens automatically on Steam Deck
    D-Pad control added for item selection
    Shortcut for energy bars now assigned to the right analog stick button
    The demo watermark no longer overlaps with the logo
    Save files now have clear names ("Manual 1," "Manual 2," "Manual 3")
    Correct pigs are now unlocked on the proper islands
    Lighting & performance improvements
    Fixed crashes
    Animals should now clip into buildings less frequently
    UI now scales better for resolutions other than 16:9
    New sounds added & existing ones adjusted
    Music updated for certain situations
    Fixed issues where multiple buildings appeared interactable at the same time
    The "X" button to close the workbench with a mouse is now always visible
    Skill descriptions were incomplete in some languages and have been fixed

In this diary, we’re diving into one of the most rewarding parts of your cozy adventure—running your very own shop! Whether you’re stocking shelves with fresh produce, helping customers or upgrading your space to make it even better, your shop is at the heart of the island! So, let’s take a closer look at how selling, negotiating, and upgrading all come together to create a satisfying and cozy loop!

[h3]Your Shop: Where the profit happens🏪[/h3]
Your shop is apart of one of the core cozy game loops, all your hard-earned produce can either be crafted into something else, or sold for Sugardew - the main currency of the Island. Sugardew can be traded for seeds, upgrades or little boots and benefits like fertilizer or candy to restore stamina.




[h3]Stocking: Watch your shelf!📦➡️🛒[/h3]
Once you place your items on the shelves and open for the day, the island’s forest folk will stop by to shop. They’ll pick out what they want, pay at the till, and sometimes—if they need a little extra convincing—you might have to step in and make the sale.



[h3]Negotiation: The art of the deal💪💰

Some customers won’t make a purchase right away, and that’s where your persuasion skills come in! You can go all-in for a bigger profit (with the risk of scaring them off) or take a gentler approach with a small discount for a more reliable sale.



[h3]Upgrades: Upgrades people, upgrades!🏗️💖[/h3]
Every sale not only earns you Sugardew but also helps restore Harmony to the island. As you progress, you’ll unlock new tools, bigger shop spaces, and even more plants and creatures to tend to!

Upgrading your shop comes with plenty of perks. The first expansion allows you to stock more items and introduces handy features like the universal chest. Plus, it makes your shop feel even more inviting!

✅ Controller & mouse input: Fix for “Feed All” input prompt
✅ Upgrades: Now properly unlock when loading a savegame
✅ Controller navigation: Now works without needing to press a button first
✅ Mailbox popup: No longer opens at incorrect moments
✅ Missing description text for dead plants added
✅ Corrected term for "Place" in inventory
✅ Renamed “Reward” → “Unlocks”
✅ Multiple seeds per day from animals? (Still under testing)
✅ Various text improvements
✅ Handbook bug with controller input fixed
✅ Some sound issues fixed
❓ Intro videos on Steam Deck: Fix implemented, but not yet tested 😉
