Countess in Crimson Demo

Exciting news! We’re proud to share with you a demo for Countess in Crimson. To play, just click the big green "Download Countess in Crimson Demo" button on the store page :-)

The demo contains first two chapters of the game, which should give you a good idea of how the gameplay feels like with the caveat that later chapters offer more in terms of free roaming and player agency (and of course, way more of the spicy content). Please note that some of the features intended for the full release (most notably the character screen, options, tutorials, galleries, achievements and manual saving) are disabled in this demo and there’s no need to contact us to request those.

As always, feedback is highly appreciated (good or bad, as long as it’s constructive). If you wish to share your impressions of the demo or report a bug you encountered, either post a comment here or send an email to [email protected].

Since tutorials are not available in the demo, here's some useful info on the game controls:

[Left Click] Perform Action / Advance Dialogue
[Right Click] Open Inventory
[Space] Advance Dialogue / Pause Cutscene
[Esc] Enter Menu / Skip Cutscene
[S] Show Points of Interest

Have fun!

Countess in Crimson Development Update #2

Hello everyone and let’s recap our current progress for Countess in Crimson.

We’ve finished most of the UI and underlying engine work (most of what’s left in that regard will be finished up when all actual content is coded into the game) and begun preparing the narrative content for the game (images, animations and coding dialogues).

Since Countess in Crimson is venturing a bit more into visual novel territory than Cockwork Industries did and as such will feature a higher amount of images to tell the story, we decided we want to make those static images more appealing and breathe some life into them. After some experimentation, we’ve come up a way to create “motion images” that will serve that purpose and we’re quite happy how it turned out.

Here are 2 samples:

Of course fully animated sex scenes are also coming (no pun intended 😉). Here’s one featuring Irina, the inkeeper.

Countess in Crimson Development Update #1

Hello everyone!

Today we’d like to share some details regarding progression and content unlocking we’ll have in place for Countess in Crimson.

Many of you probably remember, in our previous game – Cockwork Industries, you had to increase your reputation with each separate character to unlock sex scenes and endings. In Countess in Crimson we’re approaching this differently. Instead of character reputation scores, the player will be developing three “Personality Traits”: Empathic, Naughty and Impressionable.

Empathic – You care about people around you, even at the cost of your own self-interest.
Naughty – You love all mischief, big and small. This includes flirty and cheeky behavior as well as downright rude, evil or cruel.
Impressionable – You’re likely to be influenced by others or your own unfounded beliefs. Also associated with spirituality and superstition.

Each girl will be attracted to one of those personality traits and each trait will allow you to unlock additional content with more than one girl. For example, developing the Empathic trait will improve your relationships with both Ashley and Irina.

This new system addresses many issues we had with the Cockwork Industries reputation-based system:

• Because you’re developing your own personality traits instead of guessing what a certain character may or may not like, it’ll be easier to assess dialogue choices and judge the impact they have on character development, giving the player more agency from the get-go. To make it even clearer, you’ll see visual feedback for each of your chosen responses.

• It’ll be easier to unlock additional content with multiple girls in one playthrough since each trait corresponds to more than one (at the start we’ll have 2 girls for Empathic, 2 for Wicked and 1 for Impressionable; the ultimate goal after all DLC content is to have 3 for each – 9 girls total).

• We don’t need to have a comparable number of dialogues for each girl. All that matters is that the number of Empathic/Wicked/Impressionable responses is roughly equal throughout the game. This helps in maintaining better story flow.

In addition to Personality Traits, we'll also have "Plot Modifiers” – Sanity and Curiosity. Depending on the combined score of these two, the game’s last chapter will play out differently leading to multiple endings and contain additional unlockable content.

You'll be able to track your in-game progress on the character progression screen.

Today we'd also like to introduce the second antagonist of the game - Aliyah, the custodian:

Finally, we've seen some people speculating about the game having vampires... While we can't confirm or deny not to spoil too much, here's a small teaser image to give you a hint:

Introducing Countess in Crimson

Hello everyone and welcome to the first Countess in Crimson development post, which serves as an introduction to the game.

Countess in Crimson follows the story of Josh and Ashley – a young couple stranded somewhere in the Carpathian Mountains who eventually find themselves in a secluded village whose denizens live in the shadow of a menacing castle towering over the landscape. Within the castle resides the titular Countess along with her lustful entourage. As you play through the story, vicious plots and agendas are revealed while your choices ultimately determine Ashley and Josh's fate.

Gameplay-wise, Countess in Crimson is a visual novel / adventure game mix with strong emphasis on dialogue and, of course, steamy and passionate romance. Through dialogue choices and actions, you develop different personality traits which, in turn, deepen your relationships with ladies most attracted to a specific personality trait. We'll delve more into this in one of the future updates.

To summarize, Countess in Crimson can be best described as an Visual Novel / Adventure Game with Dating Sim elements.

Today we'd also like to introduce the first of our game's love interests - Ashley, the protagonist's girlfriend.

Our next news post will be our first development update, in which we'll talk more about the current state of, you guessed it, game's development :-).
