After Dawntrail, FF14 director Yoshida wants to show the "strength of the hero"

Final Fantasy 14 game director Naoki Yoshida says we'll have plenty of chances to show off our strength in the MMO's upcoming stories, but warns that you might have to do some reading. Our Warrior of Light was supposed to be on vacation in Dawntrail, and, while that didn't pan out quite as we hoped, we still took more of a back seat to give the characters around us a chance to step up and grow. Patches 7.2 and 7.3 make it increasingly clear that approach won't be possible moving forward, however, so we sat down with 'Yoshi-P' at Gamescom to discuss becoming the hero again, solving puzzles, and Dawntrail's focus on family.

Patch 7.31 Notes



Patch 7.31 makes the daring hop to Phaenna─the next destination for the Cosmic Exploration Initiative─and brings new phantom weapon enhancement quests.

* Additional features will be implemented in future updates:
  • Yok Huy Allied Society Quests, a new deep dungeon (Pilgrim's Traverse), and Inconceivably Further Hildibrand Adventures sidequests are scheduled to release in Patch 7.35.

The Final Fantasy 14 Beastmaster is one of the most anticipated additions to the MMORPG in some time, and it's due to come as part of Dawntrail's remaining patches - specifically during the FF14 7.5 rollout. This second 'limited job' joins the Blue Mage as an entire side activity of its own, and is expected to have much more distinctive mechanics than any of the standard roles. Yet details on what it'll actually entail have been relatively light.
