FF14 patch 7.4 is here, but its Red Mage and Gunbreaker changes have me worried that job design is going backwards

Final Fantasy 14 patch 7.4 is finally here. We've been waiting for it for a while, with all eyes on job balancing ahead of Square Enix's proposed rework, set to drop with 8.0. While the plan is to make the MMO's classes feel more distinct, following the controversial changes to Black Mage, there are rumblings that the upcoming adjustments may do more harm than good. While 7.4's new raids are going down a treat, some of the Gunbreaker and Red Mage tweaks have sparked further concerns, with the former feeling a little too easy and the latter losing some of its mobility.

Patch 7.4 is live!

We are proud to present the patch notes for Into the Mist, which sees adventures begin anew in the wake of Calyx's defeat.

This patch also introduces the new trial, Hell on Rails, the new raid dungeon, Arcadion: Heavyweight Division, the latest campaign addition to Frontline, Worqor Chirteh (Triumph), along with a wide-ranging glamour update and a host of new features, including strategy boards and the Command Panel.

* Additional features will be implemented in future updates:

Oizys─the new cosmic exploration destination, Tool Enhancement Quests - Cosmic Tools, and Weapon Enhancement Quests - Phantom Weapons are scheduled to release in Patch 7.41.
The new variant dungeon (The Merchant's Tale) and Inconceivably Further Hildibrand Adventures sidequests are scheduled to release in Patch 7.45.

FF14 7.4 is imminent, which means it's time for our regularly scheduled look at everything coming in the new patch. With the Dawntrail story now behind us, it's time to step forward into the next era of the MMORPG, but the new Final Fantasy 14 update is already looking a lot busier than just that. We've got the climax of the Arcadion raids, a gorgeous new variant dungeon, and a whole new world courtesy of the lifting of glamour restrictions. Final Fantasy 14 7.4's tomestone changes have arrived, so make sure you spend them before they're gone

As Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail winds down and we look towards Eorzea's future, it's time for the annual Allagan tomestone rotation. Coming into FF14 7.4, Aesthetics tomestones will be removed, replaced with Mnemonics. If you've got a stack in your inventory, make sure you exchange them before Into The Mist drops, but note that your Heliometry tomestones are changing, too.
