Ark: The Animated Series drops a surprise release, with Michelle Yeoh and Russell Crowe along for dino fun

Remember when Ark: Survival Evolved was announced to be getting an animated series with a star-studded cast including the likes of Michelle Yeoh, Russell Crowe, Elliot Page, David Tennant and Malcolm-bloody-McDowell? I sure didn’t! That was over three years ago during the heights of a worldwide pandemic, though, so I think we can forgive ourselves a little. Anyway, Ark: The Animated Series has now arrived out of the blue, dropping its first six episodes on streaming service Paramount+.

ARK: The Animated Series has arrived on Paramount+! When 21st century paleontologist Helena Walker (Madeleine Madden) finds herself resurrected on a mysterious primeval island populated by prehistoric beasts, she must learn to survive with new allies from throughout time, while trying to uncover the true nature of their strange new world.

Featuring a star-studded cast including Michelle Yeoh, Gerard Butler, Russell Crowe, David Tennant and Vin Diesel, ARK: The Animated Series is now streaming in the US and Canada. Coming to other countries with Paramount+ starting April 19th.

Aligning with the release of ARK: The Animated Series, we've now added two new free animated cosmetics to ARK: Survival Evolved!

Server owners may need to optionally update to version 358.24 to enable the additional cosmetics. Survivors may also need to respawn or 'Reset Default Survivor Items' in the options menu to grant the skins.

ARK: The Animated Series is apparently a thing and has just surprised-dropped six episodes onto Paramount Plus

An animated series for Paramount+ based on ARK: Survival Evolved (now Ascended) ahead of the launch of ARK 2 was announced in 2020, but we don't blame you if you'd forgotten, as that pterosaur flew under most folks' radars. Now, the streaming service has surprise-dropped six episodes of it in the US and Canada.

One would think this production was a smaller one, yet we're looking at huge names such as Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All at Once), Russell Crowe (The Loudest Voice), Gerard Butler (Plane), David Tennant (Doctor Who), Jeffrey Wright (American Fiction), Elliot Page (The Umbrella Academy), Madeleine Madden (The Wheel of Time), and Vin Diesel (Fast & Furious franchise). They're not messing around, eh?

The show itself, which released a lengthy trailer in late 2022 too, looks okay and like your average streaming-only animated adaptation based on a video game. That is, below Castlevania's level and on par with stuff like DOTA, Dragon's Dogma, or the upcoming Tomb Raider for Netflix.
