Creator comments from Kazutaka Kodaka have been released!
"The Hundred Line -Last Defense Academy-" will be released tomorrow, April 24th!
Today, the day before the release, we'd like to introduce a comment from "Kazutaka Kodaka",
who was in charge of direction and scenario,
from the creator's blog currently being serialized on the official website.
Please read this and look forward to the release tomorrow.
=================================
Hello everyone.
This is Kazutaka Kodaka from TooKyo Games.
This is the final installment of the "The Hundred Line" developer blog.
Thank you for reading until now. I hope that you have been able to get a sense of the passion we put into our work through the voices of our creators.
Now, since this is the final installment, I would like to leave behind a kind of will, writing down things that I have been unable to say until now and things that I can only say now that the release is just around the corner. Although it feels like almost everything has been said, there were some important things that I have not said yet.
First of all, the fact is that this game, "The Hundred Line -Last Defense Academy-" is ●●●●●●!
...I know you probably won't understand if I say it with the words obscured, but this attempt is probably the first in history for a new IP game. I want to surprise our users, so I will leave the words obscured for now. Please get to that point on your own and be amazed.
Moreover, this attempt is not just a gimmick, but also a necessary device to boost the fun of this game. You may not understand what it is now, but you will notice it as soon as you reach the "boost point", so please look forward to it. In fact, the real game begins from there.
The next thing I want to tell you is about branching.
First of all, "sacrificing a friend in battle" does not affect branching at all.
I looked at some of the reviews of the trial version and it seemed like users were worried about it, so I will state clearly that this is not the case.
The sacrifice of a friend in battle has nothing to do with branching!
So feel free to kill your friends and protect the school!
That way you can enjoy the battles of this game to the fullest!
By the way, I have not been very positive about this branching system until now. This is the same with "Danganronpa" and "Rain Code", but I thought that providing "the best story" in one place would be more moving than a branching story. I felt that a branching story would lose its appeal.
But when I was making this game, I realized that if I could make all of the branching stories "the best stories," then I could branch them out without losing their appeal. Or rather, because there are so many main stories, it would be a game that you can enjoy the story over and over again!
When I realized that, I immediately asked Uchikoshi to do so. At that time, I asked him to even change the genre of the branching stories, which also meant further strengthening the appeal that could only be obtained on that route.
Well, that was the beginning of the hellish development.
I wrote and wrote the scenario, but it never ended...
I drew and drew the pictures, but it never ended...
I added and added the direction, but it never ended...
But now that it's finished, I truly believe that it was worth doing it, even if it meant going to the brink of death.
Every time a new story unfolds, the experience of feeling happy and sad about the emotions and information that can only be obtained on that route is definitely a story experience that can only be obtained with this game.
It's all thanks to the hellish development...!
Also, and I've said this repeatedly in various interviews, this title "The Hundred Line -Last Defense Academy-" is Tookyo Games' first in-house IP work.
The production funds were split 50/50 with the publisher, Aniplex. But that's why we were able to create it until we were satisfied with it. Up until now, we'd irresponsibly left the extension of the development period and additional funding to the company that provided the money, but this time we had to make the decision ourselves after consulting with Aniplex. As a result, the production costs were much higher than initially planned, but we were still able to release it with a result that we were truly satisfied with.
It's not an exaggeration to say that I have no regrets even if this is my last work, and that's what I truly feel. I can proudly say that "The Hundred Line -Last Defense Academy-" is the masterpiece of creator Kazutaka Kodaka!
And lastly, let me take this opportunity to express my gratitude to everyone who was involved in this game.
So many people helped us in the production of this game.
Thanks to the publisher Aniplex, the developer Media Vision, JET Studio who made the movies, the voice actors, my friends at Tokyo Games, and many others, we were able to complete this game. I would like to thank all of them for their help.
Thank you so much. I'm sorry for being so selfish.
I hope that being involved in this game will make you proud, even if just a little.
After the release, the game will leave our hands and become the property of our users.
How it will grow is no longer within our control.
But I am convinced that this game will grow in the hands of our users.
What we are doing is not an art activity or a hobby, but rather a game business after all, but I believe that if the creators put their souls into something they truly believe to be interesting, put their lives into it, push past their limits, and don't give up until the end and deliver it, it will definitely be supported by users, and as a result, it will sell.
It may be a naive idealism, but I want to bet my life as a creator to prove it.
Well, it's almost here! Please embrace "The Hundred Line -Last Defense Academy-" with all your might, as we have put all our effort into it!
