Dev Log #1: What We've been working on!
Hello rangers!
We've been working on Whiskers over the last few months and have some behind-the-scenes before and afters to show you all!
What you're seeing first is called 'a blockout' this was a model put together initially to pretty much just showcase what our cats looked like as we playtested and developed the features, to help the team get a 'vibe' for what we're doing and the feel we want to give. Once we did that, we refined it, we went through quite a deep process, refining on 'what we thought a cute cat' would look like! In the end, we decided on plushy-like look!
With our base model nearly finished we wanted to start planning the custom character features. To provide a lot of options quickly we utilized the liquify tool in Photoshop to experiment with as many designs as possible. We can then look at these designs to help identify features that we want to move forward within the final character construction.
We broke down the designs into 2 categories. 1) designs that would be part of the base cat utilizing morph targets (changes to the 3d shape) like ear shape or fuller face and 2) add-ons or features that would be handled through adding 3D elements to the character like longer hair on the cheeks or ears.
As a team, we wanted to focus on the quality of the custom character versus just having more options. This process helps us
Just goes to show how things progress over the course of development!
Wishlist us to not miss an update!
