This Week in Civ: Update 1.1.1 is live!

Hey, Civ fans! In case you missed it, here’s another roundup of Civilization VII news from the past week:

During a livestream, we explored some of the new features of Update 1.1.1 live in a 1v1 match set in the Exploration Age. We also showcased a new developer update video where Firaxis Creative Director, Ed Beach, highlighted some details and provided some additional insights into Update 1.1.1.

Update 1.1.1 has officially rolled out to all platforms!
Here are some of the highlights:
  • New Natural Wonder Mount Everest

  • Improved Map Generation (New Starting Position)
  • Settlements & Commander Renaming

[h2]Wrapping up Crossroads of the World DLC: Simón Bolívar, Bulgaria, & Nepal[/h2]
Lastly, our 1.1.1 Update came with the second part of Crossroads of the World, officially wrapping up the collection with Simón Bolívar, Bulgaria, and Nepal.

Introducing Simón Bolívar, a revolutionary and charismatic leader! Versed in the ways of war, Simón is a clear choice for those looking to solve problems with a sword. Learn more about his playstyle in the latest game guide entry, and check out his First Look Video below.

We also introduced Bulgaria and Nepal! Exploration Age civ Bulgaria excels at gaining the element of surprise against their enemies with their unique infrastructure. Vital new Civilization 7 mod adds the most essential feature, fixing maps and UI

Given the caliber of the competition these days - Stellaris, Age of Wonders, even the unfailingly popular Civ 6 itself - it's no mystery as to why Civilization 7 is still struggling. More than a month since launch, Firaxis' 4X game sequel is still missing some crucial features. Updates and patches have made a difference, but in terms of the substantial map and user interface (UI) changes that players are waiting for, well, those aren't here yet - at least not officially. A transformative new Civilization 7 mod improves on some of the game's biggest problems, and you can get it right now.

1.1.1 Patch 1 Notes – March 27, 2025

Today, we’re rolling out a small patch that addresses a number of reported issues and aims to improve overall stability.

In order to maintain crossplay functionality with Switch while we push this patch out to all platforms, please use our crossplay-compatible branch: full Steam beta branch instructions here.

  • Made stability improvements to all platforms.
  • Addressed several reported issues where civs were not unlocking correctly during an Age transition.
    • Unfortunately, due to the nature of this issue, this change will not apply to existing saves.
  • Addressed a reported issue where resource icons were not scaling properly at higher resolutions.
  • Addressed a reported issue where Spain civ's City names could be missing localization.

Civilization 7 update 1.1.1 is now here, bringing new features and more UI polish, as outlined in this dev video that at one point features some slightly dodgy text spacing

The second of the two big March updates Civilization 7 developer Firaxis revealed would be coming last month has dropped today, March 25. It adds some new features and continues the effort to fix and change elements of the game folks didn't like, such as the UI.
