The Slaughterhouse: Development Update

In a previous news post, we shared concept art for our upcoming map The Slaughterhouse, as well as some images of new assets. This time, we're updating you on the progress of the map environment itself, as well as some of the lore.
Nathan's Past
We know a lot of players like Nathan's backstory, and The Slaughterhouse reveals a bit more: in his early 20s, before training as a chef, Nathan worked at the slaughterhouse before quitting dramatically due to the psychological stress of the job, as well as mounting pressure from his fellow colleagues. In The Slaughterhouse, Nathan has returned to his first work place to summon Azazel and exact bloody revenge.
A Brutal Experience
With this map, our developers have been hard at work creating an experience that is focused on physical/body horror, and exposes the player to some shocking, bloody moments. The gritty, gory map design, assets and character models all contribute to this effect, as well as some truly spine-tingling voice acting, sound effects and ambient audio. The Slaughterhouse is also smaller than our previous map The Town, and hearkens back to the dark, claustrophobic feel of our original map, The Farmhouse.

We can reveal that there will be new mechanics, and players will definitely be kept busy working out how to put everything in place in order to defeat a demonically possessed Nathan. We'll share further details upon release. The Slaughterhouse will be a brutal map to beat in general, and whether you're playing co-op or solo, we're excited to see how you all approach it on the various difficulty levels. Check out the screenshots below for a taste of what to expect (click to enlarge):

The Slaughterhouse update will also introduce two new perks, a new flashlight, a new map collectable, and a variety of unlockable robes. Again, we'll reveal more info about these upon release.
Release Date
Currently, we are planning to release The Slaughterhouse in March 2023, if all continues to go smoothly. We can't give you an exact date yet because we don't have one, but we can confirm that we've entered the internal playtesting stage and that we're also working on a trailer. We'll update you with a precise release date as soon as we can.

Thank you for your continued patience as we prepare The Slaughterhouse for release. Your support really motivates us.

v3.3.3

-Ends the Christmas event

v3.3.1

- Players are now able to see how many presents (and pumpkins during Halloween) they have collected on the map when bringing up the keys list

Christmas Event 2022

Tis the season to be jolly, and we think you'll have every reason to smile (or scream!) during this year's DEVOUR Christmas Event, which will run from 8th December at 10am PST until 27th December at 10am PST. We're celebrating by giving players the opportunity to unlock a unique new outfit and a collectable festive robe, and enjoy an EXP boost. Once unlocked, both the outfit and robe will remain available to you after the event has ended.

During the event, players can unlock this chilling new outfit for Zara by beating any map on Hard or Nightmare, while playing as her.

To unlock this robe, you'll need to find and collect the 40 Christmas presents hidden across all 4 of DEVOUR's maps. Once unlocked, the robe will remain available to you after the Christmas event has ended. For players who unlocked this robe last year, they will need to collect the 10 presents on The Town map in order to retain ownership of the robe. (We apologise for any frustration this causes: it's related to some technical issues and not intentional!).
EXP Boost
Who said the holiday season has to be merry and bright? Take on the forces of darkness this Christmas and enjoy a 1.5X EXP boost until December 27th.
V3.3 Changelog
• Added Zara unlockable 'Snowball Fright' outfit
 • Added 40 collectible presents across maps
 • Added unlockable Christmas robe
 • Fixed a bug with thunder volume for indoors and outdoors
 • Added Christmas theme to menu music

As we revealed in our previous post, we're currently working on our upcoming new map The Slaughterhouse, due for release in 2023. Keep an eye out here, on Discord and on Twitter for more details in future. We're moving as quickly as we can with development on it without sacrificing quality. We know you love more info, so here's another asset we've developed. Any ideas? (don't worry, we're not going DBD on you all!)

As we move towards the end of 2022, we'd like to take this opportunity to say how grateful we are for your continued support. For various reasons, this year has been a particularly challenging one for the DEVOUR team and we are grateful to you all for sticking with us. We are as excited as ever about DEVOUR and its future, and committed to bringing you all many more scares!

However you enjoy the holidays, the whole team at DEVOUR would like to wish each of you a very Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year.

The Slaughterhouse: Sneak Peek

We promised you a development update in November, and here it is! The DEVOUR team is hard at work putting together our new, upcoming map The Slaughterhouse, due for release in 2023. As we detailed in our previous Steam post, this one is taking a bit longer, and we'll give you an estimated release date as soon as we can. In the meantime, we're excited to show you some of the awesome work we've been putting into the assets, characters and environment:

We teased the shredder previously, and it's here again because we can't get enough of how gory it is. Any ideas what it'll be used for?

The oil can really shows how grungy The Slaughterhouse map will be, and it certainly won't be the only thing that's rough around the edges.

You can't have a slaughterhouse without a dark, creepy freezer, and there'll be plenty of chills to be had between the swinging carcasses.

What do you think these vents are for?

Here, piggy piggy.. You might not want to get too close to these guys. (Please note, this is concept art).

These gruesome slaughterhouse workers might not behave quite as you'd expect based on our previous maps. (Please note, this is concept art).

Nathan is ready to hunt you down. We think you're going to find his behaviour, sounds and animations just as terrifying as his appearance. (Please note, this is concept art).

We think The Slaughterhouse will be DEVOUR's most brutal map yet. There will be new mechanics, and we're returning to a smaller map size, so you can expect it to be visceral, bloody and claustrophobic. We want you to be shocked and terrified in equal measure.

Christmas Event

Similar to last year, we'll be doing an event over the holidays. This time you'll be able to unlock a terrifying, unique winter-themed outfit for Zara - we'll post with more details closer to the time.

Thanks again for your patience and support as we work on our next map. At some point in the near future we'll post some new info about Nathan's chilling slaughterhouse form, so you know more about what you'll be up against..
