Wayfinders & Weapons
• We have introduced a new system for soft targeting which will increase responsiveness to the direction the player is inputting. This should reduce cases where nearby but off-target enemies are selected over enemies which are on-target but further away.
 • Art of War passive now stacks properly on Warmasters, regardless of the weapon type you are using.
 • Abilities that consume all momentum give 1, 2, or 3 stacks of Art of War depending on ability level.

(Abilities that combo (like Gladiator Slice) will give 1 stack of Art of War per execution, totaling 3 stacks for a full combo.)
(Wheel of Pain is special in that it drains Momentum over time, but there are two points during the drain that will trigger additional Art of War procs. If Wheel of Pain is held for its full duration, it generates a total of 3 stacks.)
(For Bullet Storm and Volcano, they should now generate 1/2/3 stacks based on charges used.)
(For Dual Striker abilities, they now trigger 3 stacks of Art of War.)
 • The healing effect from Bloodsong's ability Wheel of Pain now scales with both Weapon Power and Ability Power, in-line with other weapon ability effects.
 • Fixed an issue that caused Grim Harvest's ability Bone Geyser to scale entirely with Ability Power. It now scales evenly with both Ability Power and Weapon Power, bringing it in-line with other weapon abilities.
 • Hellswarm’s ability Volcano has been improved.. again!
 • First off, we’ve swapped the budgets for Resilience and Weapon Power, so Hellswarm will now have much more Weapon Power than before.

(Now fires exactly 5 meteors per Locked and Loaded charge.)
(Meteor damage increased by 20%.)
(Meteor blast radius increased by 10%.)
(Meteor drop rate increased by 150%.)
(Meteor landing area reduced by ~50%. Meteors should now land in a more tightly-packed area.)
 • Fixed a bug with Umbros where the Resilience and Weapon Power budgets were swapped.
 • Bloodsong's ability Wheel of Pain now causes guard-broken enemies to stagger on hit.
 • Tooth and Claw's ability Shredder Toss should no longer fail to find valid targets.
 • Tooth and Claw's ability Shredder Toss should no longer bounce off Silo's clones.

(Vulture Chill AoE DoT buffed by 150%)

Patch Preview: UI + Balance Updates
UI Updates
The Character Menu has had a facelift, and removes tabs for submenus which can be accessed via a button grid below the gear slots.Players can also navigate the stat window to see information on each stat, and how it affects their character + loadout. Mouse users can hover directly over the stats, while gamepad players can enter stat focus mode with a button.

With this update, we are also experimenting in the Character Menu how tooltip style popups look and feel when navigating the menu with a mouse. We would love to hear feedback on this.
Minor update to the Affinity Menu allowing Perks access through tab navigation, instead of hidden as a submenu accessed through a hotkey.
Balance Adjustments
GAMEPLAY IMPROVEMENTS
Defense Overhaul
In this patch we’re changing the way damage reduction from Physical Defense and Magic Defense is calculated.

Previously damage reduction was calculated by comparing a Wayfinder's Physical or Magical Defense to the base Weapon or Ability Power of the attack hitting them. This caused two problems.
Firstly, this method meant there was not a single damage reduction percent value to show players, as the amount of damage reduction granted by Defense varied from enemy to enemy and attack to attack.
Even worse, this method of calculation made damage more spikey. Low power enemies like fodder or low power attacks like multi-hits would have a lower base Weapon/Ability Power and thus percentage reduction against them would be greater. But the opposite was also true, with boss attacks and heavy strikes having drastically lower damage reduction.
For these reasons, we have changed how damage reduction is calculated. Now, rather than comparing defense to the base power of an attack, defense is compared to a standard value based on the enemy's Power Level.

With this system, the damage reduction percentage given in the stats page is the percentage reduction against attacks from same-level enemies.
Damage reduction percentage will change slightly when fighting enemies at a higher or lower Power Level, but it will be far more consistent with this system than it was previously.

Patch Preview: Performance Improvements

Subtitle: Six Major Changes to Enhance Performance and Stability

It’s time to optimize! We hope players have been enjoying the first iteration of the Job Board Preview. We are actively reviewing and planning adjustments to the system based on the mountain of feedback provided by all of you. Our next patch will include quite a few job-related fixes and changes, thanks to the community’s help.

As we showcased in our Q1 Roadmap, this patch will primarily focus on optimizations rather than content. We remain committed to securing the foundation of the game, and we’ve heard players loud and clear: you want better performance, fewer disconnects, and a more stable experience. The team’s big hope with this patch is that we’ve made a significant leap forward in terms of the client’s overall responsiveness and stability.

Shader Precompilation:
Upon startup, we will now perform shader precompilation right away, as opposed to when you encounter content. This will significantly reduce hitching, stuttering, and input lag when encountering certain abilities, enemies, and biomes.

Skylight and Highlands Asset Optimization:
Our tech teams have conducted numerous passes of optimization in areas like Skylight and the Highlands, reducing dense amounts of geometry and assets. A major HLOD (Hierarchical Level of Detail) pass was completed to “trim the fat” of excessive assets causing unnecessary processing burdens.

Lighting Overhaul:
We have overhauled the way we process lighting, reduced complexity, minimized overlapping lights, and removed shadows on light sources that were unnecessary. This has resulted in a significantly lower processor burden when rendering illuminated areas.

Quality and Performance Mode Added for PS5:
This highly requested console feature will allow PlayStation 5 players the ability to choose between higher graphical fidelity or an improved frame rate, achieving a near-locked 60 fps.

Improvements to Asset Loading:
We have increased the buffer period for asset streaming regions, which will result in significantly less hitching when traversing large areas with lots of details and players. This will have a greater impact on machines that are closer to our minimum requirements than on higher-end machines.

Backend Inventory Optimizations:
Our netcode has undergone significant improvements to inventory tracking in an effort to reduce server and transaction loads. This includes optimizing the amount of player data sent to the server, cutting instances of required bandwidth in half in some cases. We hope this significantly reduces disconnects for players who have logged many hours into Wayfinder and have very large inventories (long playtime history = lots of histories and logs). We have also performed a major optimization of multiplayer data infrastructure, which will reduce server load, hitches, and potential disconnects when players with excessively large inventories join a server you are on.

As January comes to a close, we want to again thank all of our dedicated fans who have continued to show their love for Wayfinder with all the feedback posted every day, as well as welcome all of the new faces we are seeing around Evenor!

Our next patch preview will focus on some of the exciting UI and gameplay changes you can expect from Patch 0.2.4, coming in early February!
