Teardown is getting a multiplayer update, so you can rough up innocent walls with your best friends

Teardown is one of those games that's just fun to look at, with all of its completely destructible voxel environments. When it first got announced it kind of reminded me of those old Flash games where you had simple creatures you could shake around and chuck stuff at, the joy of it being to see how far you could push things.

Messing around like that is all the better with friends though, I reckon, and would you look at that, developer Tuxedo Labs have just announced today that a multiplayer update is on the way to the sandbox game.

Incredibly, you can now play Teardown in third person

"You can now play Teardown in 3rd person" reads the very short, succinct update from developer Tuxedo Labs that released this week for wildly popular, million-selling game Teardown about breaking things and/or breaking into things and stealing the other things you find inside. Which, I'm going to be very frank, is a remarkably humble way to say that you fundamentally rebuilt a massive part of your previously first-person videogame...

Version 1.6 - the Character Update is here

Hi everyone,

You can now play Teardown in 3rd person.

This also means there is now a selection of playable characters to choose from, so you can picture who has been carrying the sledgehammer around this whole time. This new perspective also required us to build out animation support, which modders will have access to, as well as the ability to create and share their own custom characters. To recap some details on today’s update:
  • 3rd Person Camera: Players can now toggle between first and third-person views. All in-game tools, vehicles, and official post-launch content have been updated to fully support the new third-person perspective.
  • Playable Characters: Players can now select from a roster of unique characters from the Löckelle universe. Some of these characters need to be unlocked by completing various in-game objectives.
  • Merlin Ragdoll: Merlin, the spawnable ragdoll, is available in the spawn menu, allowing players to have a crash-test dummy for demolition experiments.
  • Modded Characters: Players can now create and play as custom characters through modding.
  • New Modding API Animations: Animation capabilities are now available in the Modding API.

We’ve put a lot of work into today’s update and hope you like it.

Folkrace

Hi everyone,

Our latest DLC, Folkrace, is out now. You'll be transported to Granriket, a serene valley where life revolves around the automotive business.

We've put in racing game modes & racetracks, destructive challenges, a fleet of unlockable vehicles & skins, an enhanced vehicle destruction system, and more. Check out our trailer here:

This is a paid DLC, which you can purchase stand-alone, as part of the Season Pass, or not at all - up to you. But we do appreciate any and all support as we continue to expand the game.

Update with focus on modders

Hello everyone,

Today’s update to Teardown is focused on modders.

We have been working with modders in our community on ways to broaden and improve the modding experience.

The workflow for creating a mod and the mod editor itself are now accessible straight from the main menu. We’ve also added a bunch of new APIs that give modders more tools to play with, as well as fixed some bugs and updated the UI.

We hope that these improvements spawn a new wave of cool mods, and that all of the modders out there like the revised mod creation workflow.

Big thanks to Autumn, apollo, CaptainBear, Agenttomate, stachu, Shawn and all the modders who have given us feedback on the modding process and helped shape this update.

Enjoy!
