Patch notes 2024-10-01 (Experimental)

Hello, everyone!

If you’re following us on our socials, you may have heard the news: Update 6 - Wonders of Water launches for everyone on October 10, 2024!

This is also the PSA for our modders and map creators - on October 10, Timberborn’s Steam Workshop opens to everyone. Many people will check the game out for the first time or return to see what’s new, so ensure your mods and maps are ready for the big day!

In the meantime, we’ve got our final (?) tweaks.
Misc.
• Regenerated map thumbnails so that they don’t remind us of waterfall particles. :(
 • Added missing lines to all translations.
 • Tweaked some lines in all translations.
 • Updated in-game credits to include the new studio member. Hi, Scott!
Bugs
• Hiding the UI no longer leaves some status icons invisible but clickable.
 • Building previews should no longer include the lights of the finished building.
 • Upon loading the game, particles such as smoke are now visible right away, not after unpausing.

Patch notes 2024-09-25 (Experimental)

Hello, everyone!

The main branch release of Update 6 - Wonders of Water is near, as you can probably tell from the final map tweaks we’re releasing today. While this is good news, it also means that, with heavy hearts, we needed to remove the waterfall particles from the game, at least for now.
Waterfall particles
As we noted in the patch notes for the experimental update introducing waterfall particles, they gave us some serious trouble. It was our custom solution, written to work with 3D water physics. We thought we solved the related visual issues before we pushed them out to the experimental branch, but thanks to the player feedback, more problems came to the surface. We made more tweaks, and we hoped all was good… until Monday. We discovered that our most recent fixes make the game unplayable on specific systems and graphical settings. It seemed unlikely that we’d be able to finalize a stable implementation on time, so we decided to remove them.
 • Removed waterfall particles from the game. ;(
Maps
And we’re done! All maps have been revised to better use features of Update 6. This applies to 3D water physics, expanded verticality, and the ability to unlock the flexible start.
 • Revised Thousand Islands, Craters, and Helix Mountains by adding flexible start options.
 • Tweaked Terraces by adding a Slope in a handy location and moving some trees around.
Bug fixes
• The “Hold LMB to place multiple objects” tip now appears even for buildings yet to be unlocked.
 • Power Shafts now rotate correctly when their sole function is charging the Gravity Battery.
 • Wind Tunnel’s particles no longer pause along with the building. Mother Nature won’t be tamed!
 • Underwater buildings are highlighted correctly after selection.
 • The construction guidelines button is no longer blurry at high resolutions.
 • Construction guidelines are no longer visible when moving the cursor over UI elements.
 • Fixed a rare crash on macOS when exiting the game.

Patch notes 2024-09-18 (Experimental)

Hello, everyone!

It’s time for another bunch of tweaks to the experimental build of Update 6 - Wonders of Water.
Waterfall particles
Thank you for your feedback related to the just-added waterfall particles. With this update, we’re tweaking both their coloring and buggy behavior. If you notice anything weird still happening, let us know!
 • Waterfall particles are now brighter.
 • Waterfall particles no longer render in front of other particles, such as smoke or fire.
Maps
Terraces join our roster of updated maps. Thanks to 3D water physics, this fan-favorite now features some hidden caves of unknown origin.
 • Updated the Terraces map.
Bug fixes
• Mechanical Fluid Pump’s connectors are back to the correct height.
 • Power connectors are now correctly highlighted for all buildings upon selection.
 • Fixed the Carousel clipping with the Paper Mill.
 • Sluices should no longer get clogged up and now release water correctly.
 • Mechanical Fluid Pump no longer displays the incorrect No Power status.
 • Ripping in-game assets out no longer causes issues with mod creation. This was caused by duplicating the assets that were already included in the modding tools.
System requirements
We’ve updated the game’s system requirements listed on Steam and other platforms to better reflect what’s needed to enjoy Timberborn as years go by and the game and the Unity engine evolve. This change isn’t explicitly related to today’s patch, and doesn’t mean your game’s performance now suddenly drops. It’s just more of a heads-up aimed at our future players.
 • (Windows) Updated minimum system requirements to Windows 10 or newer, a 4-core 1.7 GHz or better CPU, and GeForce GTX 950, Radeon R9 380 or similar.
 • (macOS) Updated minimum system requirements to a 4-core 1.7 GHz or better CPU, and the recommended system requirements to Apple M1 or better CPU/GPU.

Patch notes 2024-09-12(hotfix, experimental)

Thank you for your feedback after today's update. Here's a bunch of waterfalls-related tweaks.

 • Fixed that weird flickering of transparent water.
 • Fixed waterfall particles ignoring the layer tool.
 • Lowered the minimum waterfall height for particles to show from 1.2 to 0.7 - more is better!

Patch notes 2024-09-12 (Experimental)

Hello, everyone!

The official release of Update 6 - Wonders of Water is near, but there were a few extra things we needed to make it fully… satisfactory.
Visual
Update 6 allows you to build aqueducts, which means even more waterfalls popping up on the map. So why not make them all prettier… at least when playing on Ultra?
 • Added particles to waterfalls, visible on the Ultra graphical preset. This change sounds simple, but we’ve encountered several serious issues with this little feature. Please let us know if you spot anything weird!
Game over screen
After you launch a wonder for the first time, you are granted the highest of in-game honors and bask in the glory of the congratulations screen. Timberborn is a post-apocalyptic game, though, and sometimes, things don’t go as planned. We have a dedicated pop-up for that now, too.
 • Added a game over screen, displayed after the population dies.
Bugs
• Sluices no longer leak to the sides. This applies both to the occasional visual bug and the actual gameplay issue.
 • Adult beavers no longer become a little too floaty after entering water directly from the stairs.
 • Fixed a bug with unfinished Impermeable Floor tiles disappearing after hiding their layer with the layer tool.
 • Bridges attached to overhangs now correctly display a path tile at the entrance.
 • The map thumbnail should no longer break on the congratulations screen at high UI scales.
 • Fixed a bug with power shaft connectors appearing on the incorrect side on flipped buildings (again!).
 • Restored AoE indicators to buildings being part of the larger construction preview.
