The Halloween Event is Live!

Welcome to the Groundwork Update! We are really excited for the Paver and Medium Canister items to get introduced to the game, as we feel they fundamentally change how players look at rovers. Enjoy!

Vehicle In-Air Stabilization and Manual Controls
  • Rovers automatically self-correct their rotation while airborne, and are much less prone to flipping over
  • You can also manually adjust the Pitch and Yaw/Roll of rovers while airborne using WASD/Left-Joystick
  • Control over Yaw or Roll can be toggled in the options menu.

Drill Controls/UI
  • Overhauled to be more consistent with the current Terrain Tool cursor
  • Remains visible when obscured
  • More clearly displays the vertical tilt of the Camera
  • Displays the slope of the rover relative to the ground-plane
  • Displays the amount of available Soil
  • Multiple improvements to feel and responsiveness

Halloween in Astroneer


That is right! There are reports coming in from the Sol system that strange new flora are appearing on Atrox and Vesania! This is a limited time event that runs until 11:59 PST on November 14th!

Performance Optimizations
  • Fixed a bug where tethers would occasionally cause performance degradation for clients in multiplayer games.
BUGFIXES

The following bugs have been fixed as of version 1.6.49.0:
General 
  • [AS-8090] - Fixed a typo in "Connect the Small Generator to the Smelting Furnace to increase its performance". 
  • [AS-8272] - Driving vehicles through Arch Platform, Ring Platforms, and Ring Storage now triggers their reaction slots when they are set up in the same session, and after save/load.
  • [AS-8328] - Players can no longer print from the diagonal slots of XL Platform B.
  • [AS-8358] - Decorators are now spawning in the carved out sections of both the Mountains Biome on Radiated and the Hills Biome on Exotic.
  • [AS-8383] - Player’s tether and tether posts will now connect to all 4 sides of the large curved platform.
  • [AS-8418] - Shuttle is no longer stuttering in flight after it has been picked up and moved by the player.
  • [AS-8435] - All planets show the correct primary and secondary resources in Polish
  • [AS-8462] - T4 Solar Array is now oriented the same as the other items that are printed by the large printer.
  • [AS-8464] - Rovers Sockets are no longer flipped when loading a game while out of relevance.
  • [AS-8494] - Chemistry Lab is no longer entering an unusable state when a user saves and reloads right after the chem lab finishes its process. 
  • [AS-8578] - Resources now correctly pop back up when returning into relevance after moving items in storage.
  • [AS-8601] - Packaging a Soil Centrifuge while it is active will no longer cause a crash.
  • [AS-8607] - The Hydrazine Jetpack has the correct russian translations in the tooltip, backpack printer, and research catalog.
  • [AS-8703] - Drill UI orientation on rovers will no longer offset when rover is an active physics object
  • [AS-8707] - Audio now properly ends when the T2 Shelter is packaged. The audio returns when it it unpackaged
Multiplayer
  • [AS-7692] - Shuttles that are stuck in orbit from previous versions, as well as shuttles that are left in orbit by the client in the current version are now destroyed.
  • [AS-8384] - Customization items will now unlock during multiplayer sessions.

Camera Filters
Added two new camera filters to the Small Camera to make your adventure photos even cooler!
QUALITY OF LIFE

Several “Quality of Life” issues have been addressed in this update.
  • Boost Mod will now properly affect tool speed when combined with a Narrow or Wide mod regardless of equipping order or slot position.
  • Any combination of Augments can now be equipped simultaneously. Some (like Boost Mod and Inhibitor Mod)
  • Increased the number of beacon colors to 10, up from 6.
  • Fireworks now fire without delay when attached to aux slots and reactive sockets. Fireworks still have a delay when ignited on ground, or from a non-reactive slot.
  • T1 Platforms now have oxygen rails.
BUGFIXES

The following bugs have been fixed as of version.
Community Identified Issues
  • [AS-8187] - Last tether in bundle is now be placed as expected. Last glowstick and last extender in bundle are also being placed correctly now.
  • [AS-8364] - Soil Centrifuge is not becoming stuck in downward position when user saves and exits after it is done with its operation.
General
  • [AS-7903] - Orientation of packaged items is now maintained when placing them onto a platform.
  • [AS-7991] - Last glowstick in a bundle is placed with the correct orientation now, the same as every other glowstick.
  • [AS-8080] - Galactic suit now points when the player clicks on terrain.
  • [AS-8191] - Medium printer is now able to print on the XL Platform A, regardless of the direction it is facing.
  • [AS-8198] - Player is no longer able to print from the diagonal slots on the Large Hoop Platform B
  • [AS-8228] - Jetpack now shuts off when picking up an item while using the aux keys to fly.
  • [AS-8235] - Large Storage Ring now has correct SFX when picked up, dropped, and when landing.

  • [AS-8349] - LOD range for stalagmites has been increased
  • [AS-8352] - All three shredders now maintain any partial scrap nuggets they have through save load, and pick up where they left off when creating scrap after loading.
  • [AS-8329] - Small printer is no longer able to print from the diagonal slots on the tall platform. When placed in one of the slots, the printer is inactive.
  • [AS-8290] - All platforms cables now disconnect once out of cable range.
  • [AS-8327] - Printer is disabled when slotted into any of the non-horizontal slots on the Recreational Canopy.
Multiplayer
  • [AS-8084] - Client is now able to hear their own backpack printer SFX.
  • [AS-8291] - Multiplayer | Dropship will now bring players to the original starting shelter instead of the new player created shelter when there are multiple shelters in a game.

Hello Astroneers! This month's update is a fun one, as we are finally adding jetpacks to the game! We hope you all have fun flying around planets and getting higher and further than you ever have explored before!

Small Camera
  • Takes instant photograph when slotted, delayed when placed on the ground.

  • An inexpensive illumination device that is used to provide temporary guidance for 15 minutes before expiring.

Reaction Slots

Special slots are now available on the new Hoop platforms, Arch Platform, and Ring Storage. When a platform is triggered by a Player or Ball (zebra, beach, recreational sphere), it will activate any item that is attached.

  • [AS-7447] - Platforms will no longer sink into the ground if terrain around them is manipulated in anyway
  • [AS-6385] - Large Rover will no longer fall through the ground when the terrain tool is used around it or when a drill is active.
  • [AS-7986] - Tooltip for the broken Large Platform B now says Detritus as expected.
  • [AS-7876] - Audio Listener position works properly on spherical worlds
  • [AS-7872] - LOD for some aspects of the trade platform have been extended.
  • [AS-7870] - Small battery no longer has overlapping plugs.
  • [AS-7795] - The Odd Stone on the Gateway Station now has proximity highlight for controller players.
  • [AS-7789] - Both the Large Storage Silo A and Large Storage Silo B can now be shredded in the T4 shredder.
  • [AS-7785] - Soil Centrifuge now returns resources to upright position after extracting soil, even when there are no slots for the resources to be placed on.

  • [AS-7732] - Modules are now able to automatically pull resources from the Large Storage Silo A and Large Storage Silo B.
  • [AS-7725] - All decorators on Desolo now giving players organic when harvested.
  • [AS-7555] - All three printers will now swap out the proper quantities of resources when switching between two items that require different amounts of the same ingredient to print.
  • [AS-6925] - XL Platform B’s oxygen indicator is now only on when the platform is actually connected to oxygen
  • [AS-6554] - Tethers that were previously disappearing are now spawned in the air next to the player and drop to the ground.
  • [AS-5042] - Wind vanes and decorators now have synced wind response to wind streaks.
  • [AS-4384] - Repackager and Dynamite are both more closely oriented to the item they are attached to.
Multiplayer
  • [AS-7787] - Research Chamber appears as expected for client when they leave relevance then to it.
  • [AS-7552] - Resources deposits will no longer disappear from client's perspective occasionally.
  • [AS-6705] - Client is now able to use Soil Centrifuge if they have left the area and returned.

Limited Time Events


In all Astroneer solar systems, a historical lander has appeared and is transmitting mission recordings!



To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission that put humans on the moon, we are running a special limited time in game event! Starting now until August 31st 2019, players who discover the iconic lander on Desolo will receive:

  • Vintage Red Palette 
  • Vintage Emblem Visor


In addition, the LEM lander's TV Camera is still operational, and will take photos of intrepid Astroneers that find it! Once taken, make sure to take a screenshot and share with us on social media!

EXO Surface Payload Delivery Airbags have been deployed containing firework variants that can be used to celebrate July holidays as well as the lunar landing anniversary! 

Delivery Airbags carrying Fireworks spawn in groups of 3, each having 3 fireworks. Delivery Airbags can’t be picked up and are not shreddable.

  • Calidor: Yellow fireworks
  • Vesania: Green Fireworks 
  • Novus : Teal Fireworks
  • Atrox : Violet Fireworks
  • Sylva: Red Fireworks
  • Desolo: Orange Fireworks

Quality of Life


Several “Quality of Life” issues have been addressed in this update

  • By popular demand, Rovers are now able to be flipped without leaving the vehicle!
  • The trace function on cables has been adjusted so that slotting cables between platforms should be less finicky. 
  • Pressing F1 on the keyboard or XXXX on the Gamepad will now open the Astropedia directly. 
  • Created new tooltips and descriptions for mutant seeds to indicate they are growing. 
  • Wrecked Point of Interest platform legs are now be shreddable in the Medium shredder.
  • Medium Storage now unfolds properly on Extra Large Platforms


Performance Optimizations


  • [AS-7229] - Optimized beacon rendering and update time.
  • [AS-7498] - Optimized and timesliced tether post update.
  • Optimized game state update.
  • Slight optimization to speed up map load times
  • Further optimizations to relevance checks for entities which dynamically spawn/despawn their actors.
  • Further optimizations to power system update.
  • Optimized update for tooltips.
  • [AS-7291] - Optimized the splitter to only run logic required for control panel use when the control panel is open.
  • [AS-7374] - Optimized rovers to only perform updates related to movement when the rover is actually moving.
  • [AS-7416] - Optimized power cables to make sure they do not update until relevant state changes.
  • [AS-7415] - Optimized the medium battery to have a much less expensive update.
  • [AS-7228, AS-7230, AS-7231] - Various optimizations to turn off animation updates for objects that are inert until relevant state changes occur. These optimizations were performed for: Shuttles, Deployable Landing Pad, Astro Backpack, Printers, Soil Centrifuge, Control Panels
  • Optimized control panels and catalog to nearly eliminate their update costs while closed.
  • Optimized terrain tool update: now it only runs while deforming and is faster than before.


BUGFIXES


The following bugs have been fixed as of version 1.3.0.0

General

  • Fixed our save system to work around the 16MB save file size limitation on Xbox and UWP. Players will still be unable to save if they create a save file greater than 128MB in size, or if the size of all of their save files is greater than 256MB minus the size required to save their current session.
  • [AS-4646] - Resized debris object so they no longer grow and immediately shrink when unpacking. 
  • [AS-6608] - When packaging the Wrecked small rover, another seat will no longer spawn when unpacking it.
  • [AS-6615] - Rover wheels are no longer causing visual issue when approaching them after loading a save.
  • [AS-5872] - Beacons, Chambers, and Engines located on other planets are no longer visible while orbiting a planet or traveling through space. 
  • [AS-6879] - In the tutorial, Players will no longer be stuck in the dropship after pressing “Use” Interaction before prompted. 
  • [AS-7078] - Planting seeds should now play the corresponding sound effects
  • [AS-7153] -  All plants will now grant some amount of Organic when harvested with the Terrain Tool
  • [AS-7161] - Particle effects that are connected to terrain will now get destroyed when that terrain is removed
  • [AS-7366] - Proximity Poppers death VFX are no longer disproportionately large when they are dug up
  • [AS-7458] - Terrain tool dots (and ring) now correctly turn red when out of range, even when the targeted terrain is obstructed.
  • [AS-7548] - Client is now able to use the Chemistry Lab after leaving relevance. 
  • [AS-7675] - SFX should not be heard while loading screen is present
Platforms

  • [AS-7420] - Tether lines are now connecting correctly to the Tall Platform.
  • [AS-7421] - Tether lines are now connecting correctly to the Medium Platform C
UI

  • [AS-7662] - Highlight bar Alignment should be consistent across different monitor types
  • [AS-7493] - Highlight bar on Saved Games is persistent until the action has been completed
  • [AS-7358] - Removed hover state highlight bar from Rename save submenu header.
