The Fall Update

The Trade Platform now also accepts Astronium in exchange for useful items and resources. Read on for more Fall Update details, including the addition of Steam Cloud Saves and what you need to know.

Update 1.21.127.0 will be live on all platforms Wednesday, September 15, 2021.

EXO F.A.R.M. Event

Grab your fellow Astroneers and use your expertise to assist EXO Dynamics in the Fuel Acquisition, Renewal & Maintenance event! Seasonal Sturdysquash have sprouted in the solar system and it’s up to you to cultivate and harvest them. Combine their valuable produce inside unique Cauldrangea plants to create valuable biofuel to send to EXO.

Find Wild Sturdysquash that can be harvested for their seeds on Sylva, Calidor, or Atrox; use these seeds to grow offspring that yield Sturdysquash Samples
  • Each of the featured planets have a unique variety of Wild Sturdysquash which yield different quantities of seeds
  • Sturdysquash Samples can be placed in Medium and Large Resource Canisters to keep your farms tidy

Locate Cauldrangea plants on Sylva, Calidor, or Atrox – but beware of the hazards that tend to grow nearby! Use the Cauldrangeas to produce one of three types of biofuel.
  • Compass navpoints appear to indicate nearby Cauldrangea.
  • Cauldrangea can be interacted with to cycle through their current biofuel recipe for production.
  • Each of the featured planets have a unique variety of Cauldrangea with different production speeds.

Different biofuels can be produced using different ingredients; the rarer the ingredients, the more the produced biofuel is worth:
  • Squasholine: 15 Points
    Sturdysquash Samples
  • Attapetrol: 35 Points
Sturdysquash Samples + Mutant Spiny Attactus Seeds
  • Noxothane: 50 Points
Sturdysquash Samples + Mutant Elegant Spewflower Seeds
EXO Dynamics rewards biofuel contributions with:
800 PointsBiofuel Throwback Bundle
Contains cosmetics rewarded from previous years:
  • Hat: ”Hallowed Helm”
  • Visor: ”Spooky”
  • Visor: ”Pumpkin”
  • Visor: ”Endless”
  • Palette: ”Spooky”
2400 Points – Emote: ”Giddyup”
5600 Points – Cosmetic T4 Shelter Throwback: “PUM-KN Shelter”
8000 Points – Hat: ”Honest Living”

Useful incremental rewards are included along the way to bolster your harvesting capabilities. Randomized recurring rewards are available after completing the event – including QT-RTGs & EXO Chips! – for those who want to continue to produce biofuels.
Proximity Repeater
A new activation item is available in the Catalog. Unlike other sensors and repeaters, the Proximity Repeater activates all items within its radius instead of requiring the use off segment pins. This makes it great for quick automation setups, or in cases where wired connections aren’t practical, such as planting seeds, scanning research items, or bulk packaging and unpackaging.

  • Byte Cost: 700
  • Recipe: 1x Zinc
  • Printer: Small
Trade Platform Updates
The Trade Platform has received an overhaul to expand its capabilities – it also has a new look!

  • The Trade Platform now allows players to trade Astronium for a variety of valuable items in addition to its previous Scrap trades.
  • The control panel interface has received an update to allow for selecting between Scrap, Astronium, and their various trades items.
  • The base model and associated rocket have been updated to bring them more in line with other EXO modules.
  • Slotting system behavior has been updated to allow for better loading / unloading when coupled with platforms and storage.
  • Minor text changes have been made to the description and Astropedia entry to tie this module less exclusively to Scrap.
Tutorial Removal
The tutorial is no longer available and cannot be accessed from the Main Menu.

The Achievement/Trophy “EXO Dynamics Training Seal of Approval” is now rewarded on completion of the mission “Printing Up”. This has no effect on players who already earned this.

Previously completing the “Printing Up” mission before this update will not unlock the Achievement/Trophy.  If you did not unlock the Achievement/Trophy for “EXO Dynamics Training Seal of Approval” by completing the tutorial, you would now need to complete the “Printing Up” mission to unlock it, even if you had previously done the mission before this update. This may require starting a new Adventure game.
Astropedia Update
A new Astropedia page has been added explaining Damage, Respawning, and Retrieving Supplies.
Tether Toppers
Fall harvest-themed decorations now automatically adorn your tether posts. Enjoy festive, glowing gourds as you trot across the landscape!

Someone got Space Invaders playable in Astroneer

Despite being basically space-Minecraft, it feels like we hear about people making crazy things in Minecraft a lot more than Astroneer. Now one talented creator has addressed this imbalance by building a giant, functioning, playable Space Invaders cabinet in the game - complete with score and multiple increasing difficulty levels.

Streamer and computer engineering student Tyler Hill has completed his 'Astro Invaders' project by making a fully functional Space Invaders arcade machine within Astroneer. You can check it out working on his YouTube here or in the tweet below, and if you've got the game Tyler provides a save file so players can try it out themselves.

There are switches to up the difficulty, reset the machine and the scoreboard - oh yes, there's a working scoreboard too - and the ability to move the little Space Invaders spaceship and shoot the descending aliens. It won't quite be troubling Taito, but it's still a ridiculously impressive achievement - and even more so once Tyler lifts the hood and shows how he did it.

Jet Powered Update Hotfix 1.20.2

Update 20 Hotfix 1 Release Notes (1.20.274.0)

Hey all! This hotfix is right on the edge of a hotfix and an update, as we are including some changes to the Jet Powered update that should help make sure the update is working as intended.

Updates and Tuning
  • Increased likelihood of getting 2 or 3 EXO chips from an EXO Cache
  • Dynamite can now spawn on wrecked rovers and platform POIs
  • Increased server bandwidth limits, which should result in improved connection and load times on dedicated servers
  • Improved terrain performance on dedicated servers
  • Hoverboard and VTOL now appear in the catalog with the explainer that Mission completion is required to unlock them
  • Updated some of the mission description text to make objective requirements clearer

While we really like EXO Chips, especially because they add some gameplay for Dynamite, we also want to make sure that people don't feel like their hard work opening caches was not yielding enough of a reward. The tuning changes should make sure that you should be receiving more chips more often. EXO Chips are just another new resource, but with a different way of obtaining them!

Also, while we didn't talk about this in the initial update, we are exploring ways we can add more options for obtaining chips for those Astroneers who really don't want to leave their bases. More on that soon!

Bugs

The following are still known issues as of version 1.20.274.0:

  • [AS-15682] There may still be some instances where mission objects don’t spawn on Vesania or Desolo, however in these cases the mission objectives should auto-complete to avoid being unable to complete the mission.
  • [AS-15762] There are a few item and resource tooltips in the tutorial that are missing translations for non-English languages

The following bugs have been fixed as of version 1.20.274.0:
Vehicle Missions
• [AS-15366] Vehicle Data Recorders and EXO Caches can now be blown up by dynamite that is not directly attached to it
  • [AS-15682] Players whose Data Recorders and MATs fail to spawn should now have their objective auto-complete to unstick their mission progress
  • [AS-15654] Updated some of the mission description text to make objective requirements clearer
Miscellaneous
• [AS-15256] Fixed a bug where objects would not be destroyed by dynamite if detonated with more than one piece of dynamite attached
  • [AS-15661] Fixed a bug in the hologram tooltips for Wolframite and Titanite, which incorrectly stated they were produced by a smelting furnace
  • [AS-15668] Fixed a spelling error in English in the mission objective for the “Through the Looking Glass” mission
  • [AS-15711, AS-15713] Fixed a bug where several mission descriptions and objectives were missing their non-English translations
  • [AS-15666, AS-15669, AS-15703] Fixed some resource translation errors across several languages
VTOL
• [AS-15599] Fixed an issue with the VTOL where the camera would clip through when landing on a non-terrain surface
  • [AS-15600] Fixed a bug where the VFX on the VTOL thrusters were slightly misaligned while flying
  • [AS-15602] Fixed the VTOL tooltip to be more centered on the VTOL object
  • [AS-15603] The VTOL can no longer take off when not on a planet
  • [AS-15635] Starting Medium printers now include the VTOL after it is unlocked
  • [AS-15659] The VTOL no longer floats in place after being deactivated while flying, and no longer loses all of its forward momentum when it falls
  • [AS-15660] Held inputs will now reset when a player exits the VTOL

Thanks to everyone who has been playing with the new vehicles and giving feedback! Player numbers are still super high right now and we are so so excited that people are having lots of fun with the new content.

Astroneer now lets you kickflip across planets on hoverboards

I might have to return to Astroneer. I played it a lot when it was first released, but drifted away like George Clooney in the movie Gravity. What’s grabbing my attention now, a whole two years after the initial release? They just added hoverboards in a new update. I will now return to it, also like George Clooney in the movie Gravity, but without the terrible twist.
