Play Europa Universalis 4 for free this weekend, with a huge sale on everything

After more than a decade since it launched, Europa Universalis 4 remains one of developer Paradox's best grand strategy games to date. Still a central pillar of its lineup alongside the likes of Crusader Kings 3, Stellaris, and Age of Wonders 4, new EU4 content is still coming out. As we look towards the future and a potential Europa Universalis 5, you can give the current iteration a go completely free on Steam right now, with what Paradox calls its "best deal ever" to pick up the full package.

Europa Universalis 4 is the cheapest it's ever been, right as four DLC are free

If there's one thing Paradox Interactive is great at, it's making grand strategy games. We've got Stellaris, Hearts of Iron 4, Crusader Kings 3, Victoria, and of course Europa Universalis 4. With over a decade of updates and DLC, EU4 is a Steam stalwart that's easily the pre-eminent Middle Ages games out there. If you've never played it, then, you can grab it for the cheapest it's ever been alongside a slate of free DLC right now. With Paradox continuing to tease Europa Universalis 5, there's no better time to give its predecessor a try.

Paradox respond to the accusation that they fix games with paid DLC - "we try to find a middle ground"

Fire up the Steam page for Stellaris, one of my favourite space sims, and you will see 28 pieces of DLC, ranging from free character portraits to £35 expansion passes that span a bunch of species and story packs. Stablemate Europa Universalis 4 has 37 DLC packs under its banner, while Cities Skylines is streets ahead with a whopping 62. Paradox Interactive have long built their core game business around putative forever-projects that trail an enormous mantle of paid expansions. It's seemingly this, as much as their institutional expertise with 4X, that justifies their commitment to grand strategy games, whose worlds and systems can be fleshed out for literal decades.

4 DLC free now in preparation for October 17th!

Greetings! We come bearing tidings of an exciting future! First and foremost: as of today, all owners of the EU4 Starter Edition will receive the DLC Common Sense for free.

At the same time, EVERYONE can now go to our Steam Store page and download the “Rights of Man”, “Art of War”, “Common Sense” and the “Digital Extreme Upgrade” DLC’s for free! This is in preparation for next week, when we will merge all above mentioned DLC’s into the base game for everyone by default.

Please note that trying to load a save from before using these DLC’s will break it. This is why we have announced this initiative a month in advance, so you can choose to start the game with or without these DLC’s active. If you wish to continue an old save without these DLC’s active after October 17th, you can revert your game version to 1.37.4 (https://pdxint.at/rollback)

But that is not all! Just as we promised, we also want to make it easier for you to complete your collection of EUIV Expansions and Immersion Packs - so the Ultimate Bundle is now heavily discounted! If you are an Europa Universalis IV veteran, your discount on Steam will be even higher - as the price will be lowered by the cost of DLCs you already own.
