Monstie Diaries #2 – Early Monstie Discoveries!

Hey Riders,

How’s your adventure going?

We hope you’re all having a ton of fun hatching and raising your Monsties, oh and saving the world from the Black Blight, of course!

Talking of raising Monsties, building your first team of companions can put you in a strong position as you set out to prove yourself as a Rider and explore Monster Hunter Stories’ world.

So, we thought we’d highlight three Monsties that you may, or may not be familiar with yet and how they could be a great fit for your squad!

Meet the Monsties!

Now first things first, Riders! The right team of Monsties for you is the ones you like the most! Whether you think they look cool, find them cute, or are particularly effective in battle alongside you!

The following three Monsties that we’re highlighting are purely a suggestion as they can provide a powerful boost to your team early on, if you want it. So, feel free to seek out the following Monsties if you’d like, or stick with your tried and tested crew!

Red Khezu

A cheeky smile from Red Khezu!

Red Khezu, a vibrant red Monstie, that can be found in the Darj Snowfields, offers powerful status attacks that are a useful boon both at the start of your adventure, and throughout!

Which status is that? Paralysis! Red Khezu’s Thunder based attack skills have a chance to inflict paralysis on foes it strikes, stopping them acting against you for three turns!

This gives you a window to go on the attack, or buff / heal if you’ve been feeling the pressure from powerful foes.

Red Khezu’s Ride Action, Roar, also allows you to avoid roaming encounters in the overworld by using its signature roar to scare away other nearby monsters.

When rummaging through nests in the Darj Snowfields, you’ll want an egg that is pink in colour, with a stripe pattern.

To increase your chances of encountering a Red Khezu, thus improving your chances of finding their egg in a nest by making them retreat, you can use Qurupeco’s Ride Action, Monster Call, to bring out this monster!

Talking of Qurupeco, they’re our next Monstie!

Qurupeco

This Monstie loves making noise, one way or another!

Qurupeco is a Bird Wyvern known for its ability to mimic the calls of other monsters, luring them to the Qurupeco’s location. This means that wherever you battle this monster, be ready as others are never far behind!

In battle, this Monstie is a great support to have around, with the ability to heal itself and any allies using its initial skill, Soothing Song. Upon reaching level 9 with Qurupeco, you’ll unlock Fortifying Song, boosting defence power for three turns, ideal for tanking blows from hard hitting monsters!

As mentioned, outside of battle Qurupeco can use its Monster Call ability to attract certain and in some cases, rarer monsters to your location! This is great for seeking out specific Monster Dens and their nests, as well as parts for your gear!

You can find Qurupeco in the Monsonne Plains after some initial story progress, so keep a look out!
When rummaging through nests, look out for a green egg with patches on it for this Monstie!

Zamtrios

A freshly hatched Zamtrios! They don’t stay small for long…

Looking for an early Monstie that’s both tanky in battle, and allows you to traverse over bodies of water as you're exploring, opening up new areas and items to gather?

Then the amphibious Monstie, Zamtrios, is well worth adding to your team!

Zamtrios is a respectably tanky brawler with strong HP and defensive stats that can be found in Darj Snowfields. It utilises ice-based skills both offensively and defensively to control the flow of battle! Its level 1 skill, Spread Frost Breath, even has a small chance to disable your opponent’s special skills for thee turns!

Outside of battle, you can use the natural affinity Zamtrios has with water to reach new locations, or even take shortcuts! After all, you never know what you might find when you’re exploring!
Much like finding Red Khezu, Qurupeco’s Monster Call ability can help you increase your chances of encountering Zamtrios, speeding up the process of acquiring its egg!

Speaking of the egg, watch out for a blue egg with vertical stripes on it when searching a nest!

Ride On!

That wraps up our latest post!

We hope you found these Monstie suggestions helpful, but as always, the best Monsties to use are the ones you like the most and find success with, so use whichever you please – there’s plenty to choose from!

Which Monsties have you got in your team so far? Let us know and give them a shoutout in the comments!

Thanks, Riders!

Monstie Diaries #1 – Become a Monster Rider!

Hey Riders,

With the launch of Monster Hunter Stories rapidly approaching on June 14, we thought we’d hatch a new series of posts to help welcome you all to our RPG set in the world of Monster Hunter, where instead of hunting monsters, you’re raising them!

To kick things off, we’ll start with a brief introduction, for both those who are familiar with Monster Hunter and played other titles in the series, as well as those of you who are brand new (Hello there!) to Monster Hunter and are joining us for the first time with Stories and its RPG experience!

If you’re here with us on Steam, there’s a good chance you’ve seen our latest trailer, showcasing some of the story, combat and Monstie raising elements of the game. But, just in-case, you can check it out below:

[previewyoutube][/previewyoutube]

Adventure awaits as you explore the land to acquire and hatch eggs to raise monsters into your Monstie companions, engage in strategic, turn-based RPG combat and save the world whilst you’re at it!

Welcome, Riders!

First things first, welcome to the world of Monster Hunter Stories!

In the 20-year history of Monster Hunter, you’d usually assume the role of a hunter, tracking down and hunting powerful creatures known as monsters! However, in Monster Hunter Stories, instead of hunting monsters you hatch them from eggs and raise them, building a team of monsters now known as monsties, to fight alongside in turn-based RPG combat.

As you progress through the narrative driven story of Monster Hunter Stories, you can build your team of monsties as you please, suiting your personality and playstyle!

Your Rider!

But first things first, before you can start your adventure and build your team of Monsties, you need your character!

Very early on in the game, you’ll be given the ability to customise your appearance in-game! You can choose to opt for the young rider you can see on the cover art and image above, or create your own custom character from an array of options, including your body, hair, eyes and more!

Whether you choose to have a go at having your avatar share your resemblance, or become a Rider of your own custom design, you’ll soon be on your way and ready to get your very first Monstie!

So now we’ve had a quick look at how you’re Rider will come into shape, but what’s a Rider without Monsties!? Let’s see how you’ll find, hatch and grow your team of companions.

Monsties!

You’ve now made your Rider and even hatched your first Monstie, but how do you get more?
Throughout your adventure in Monster Hunter Stories, you’ll come explore various fields from a lush forest, to a ice cold snowfield and more. All of these locales feature “Monster Dens” which you can discover via exploration, or by searching nearby after a monster retreats from a successful battle.

A Monster Den is discovered!

Monster Dens are where you can find Monstie eggs, allowing you to find new Monsties and expand your team!

If you’re familiar with RPGs, Monster Dens can be compared to “mini-dungeons”, as you explore these locations, battling monsters, finding useful items and searching for your grand prize at the deepest part of the den, a monster nest full of eggs!

Easy does it, waking up the monster can lead to a challenging battle!

Now all you need to do is grab an egg! You can try multiple times to find a particular egg you’re looking for, but be warned, the more times you reach into the nest, the higher the chance the monster protecting it will awake and go on the offensive!

RUN!

After finding the egg of your choice, start running! Upon reaching a safe distance from the nest, you can leave the den with your new Monstie egg!

And in an eggshell, that’s how you’ll expand your team of Monsties! There’s plenty of Monsties to find and hatch, giving you a wide range of powerful, cute and interesting companions to raise and fight.

Those of you familiar with Monster Hunter may well come across some of your favourites too!

To the Stables!

So many to choose from, how eggciting!

Now you’ve got an egg, or eggs, you’ll want to head to the nearest Stables to hatch your new Monsties! What hatches will depend on the eggs you grabbed, so if you’re looking to get more varied Monsties, or more of a particular one, pay close attention to the colour and pattern on the egg, as well as where the dens you sourced them from are!

Baby Monsties!

Now, they’re ready go join you on your adventure! Make sure to bring any you want to use along with you so they can gain experience and grow throughout your adventure, helping you overcome any monstrous adversaries that stand in your way!

Rite of Channeling

As you progress through Monster Hunter Stories, you’ll unlock the Rite of Channelling, a way for you to further customise and grow your favourite Monsties by channelling genes (modifiers that dramatically impact how your Monsties perform in battle), from one Monstie to another.

This can change their stats, attack moves and even their elemental type and damage!

Moving this particular fire attack gene from Yian-Kut-Ku will transform Lagombi’s element from ice to fire!

You can try this with a range of monsties, so feel free to experiment to create your ideal team and even include a few surprise twists on what you’d expect from these monsters in other Monster Hunter titles!

The power is in your hands, Riders!

Ride On!

That wraps up today’s post!

To those of you new to Monster Hunter Stories, or Monster Hunter in general, we hope you found this post helpful!

Monster Hunter Stories release is imminently and we hope you join us for a grand adventure where instead of hunting monsters, you team-up to save the world!
